2. Paul Pogba is primed for a great season
Despite having an impressive first season at Old Trafford, Pogba was often criticized for his lack of goals and assists by rival fans and pundits alike. The £89 million Manchester United paid for him was the highest fee paid for a player at that time. But now that the transfer record has been smashed by PSG, Pogba will be able to play without the added pressure of being the most expensive player of all time.
Last season Pogba played an integral role for France in the Euro 2016. As a result, he failed to have a proper preseason with his new teammates. Even then Pogba was one of United’s best players last season. He received the third best WhoScored rating in the league last season, behind just Eden Hazard and Alexis Sanchez.
And had his teammates not missed so many chances he set them up for them, Pogba would have received much more acclaim for his performances. This season, with a new striker playing in front of him, there is every reason to believe that Pogba will have a stellar season for United.
Lukaku’s pace and power will suit Pogba much better than the largely immobile Ibrahimovic. Another new signing, Nemanja Matic, will allow Pogba to have more freedom to play in an advanced position and create more chances for his teammates.
While United fans saw how important Pogba was to the team last season, the Frenchman will show the world this season that he is worth the fortune the club spent on him. Pogba has already opened his scoring account for the season, and if he continues playing like he did against West Ham, it will be very hard to stop him.
