Manchester United have been searching for an attacking presence along their boundaries for far too long. Arjen Robben could be the answer for their problems at long last.

Arjen Robben has enjoyed a long successful career primarily with Chelsea, Real Madrid, and Bayern Munich. Now thirty-three years of age, Robben has cemented himself as one of the all-time great Dutch players and a staple in the vast landscape of European stars.

Manchester United have been at the forefront of the transfer market for the past several years, and should consider making a move for the Dutch star. The team has struggled to find the exact star that they want, as the experiments with Robin Van Persie, Angel Di Maria, Ander Herrera, and others haven’t been the most successful in the world.

Arjen Robben could fill the void that the team has been looking for four years. Angel Di Maria was going to be the force along the wing to set up the attack for United’s strikers, but his tenure was short-lived as the Argentine star is now a member of PSG. Robben could come in and play that role brilliantly, if Jose Mourinho is willing to open up the checkbook.

Robben is an exceptional all around talent. A surprisingly solid defender as well as offensive terror, Robben is the type of presence along the wing that United could use. Robben is the type of player that Manchester United have been needing for way too long.

More from Manchester United

As far back as their last appearance in the Champions League Final at Wembley Stadium against Barcelona, the Blaugrana were able to consistently penetrate United’s boundaries due to a lack of an attacking presence on the edges of the net. United relied on Wayne Rooney to do the majority of their goal scoring for years, with the majority of the development of those goal scoring chances coming straight up the middle from Ryan Giggs, Michael Carrick, and more recently Juan Mata.

Angel Di Maria was supposed to be the remedy to this problem. However, United found that they were never quite able to create enough chances as Di Maria was not the passing presence that the team needed. This is where Arjen Robben can become a much-needed addition for United.

Robben may be older and past his prime, but he will undoubtedly come cheaper than Di Maria did for United. United are also in a firm position to compete for the Premier League title, and Robben along the boundary along with Paul Pogba patrolling the middle of the pitch would make Manchester United’s midfield among the very best in all of Europe.
