GK: Hugo Lloris /// Tottenham /// 2016/17: 34 apps, 15 clean sheets, 1.9 saves per game

David de Gea, Hugo Lloris and Thibaut Courtois have much in common. Each are world-class keepers playing behind world-class defenses. De Gea is probably the best of the bunch, but that’s only to speak of the Spaniard’s greatness rather than to belie the quality of Lloris and Courtois’.

All three are likely to have fantastic seasons, but it’ll be tight. De Gea has dominated the league in recent seasons but this could be Lloris’ year to get in the Team of the Season.

Petr Cech also comes within shout, but Arsenal’s defense is too, well, Arsenal-y for Cech to be considered.

If Tottenham stay in the title race and keep their stout defense without Kyle Walker, and possibly Danny Rose, it’ll look even better for Lloris, who’s off to a great start after getting his first clean sheet of the season in their first match.

There’s a possibility that United play a bit more attacking with their summer additions which may leave de Gea a bit more exposed than he’s accustomed to.

Also, what will Mou do with his goalkeepers in regards to European competition? Last year, he was glad to allow Sergio Romero to play in the Europa League games, and stayed resolute all the way through the final, but would he keep de Gea on the bench for the Champions League?
