RB: Hector Bellerin /// Arsenal /// 2016/17: 33 apps, 1 goal, 3 assists, 0 defensive errors

Despite having a relatively disappointing 2016/17, the 22-year-old fullback still appeared in 33 games without a defensive error. On top of that, he created 29 chances. That’s a “down year” for someone who was 21 years old at season’s beginning. Just shows how highly regarded Bellerin is.

Both fullback positions have less competition than many spots in this team. Walker was in the team last year, but just moved to Manchester City, will have to settle in and deal with more rotation. Nathaniel Clyne is injured for at least the first few games, Seamus Coleman is injured for longer, while Antonio Valencia should be in the conversation come season’s end.

But if Arsenal persist with the 3-4-3 for the season, it’ll only further accentuate Bellerin’s strengths. He’ll have less defensive responsibility and be able to bomb forward essentially whenever he wants.

In the league’s first gameweek, Bellerin impressed as Arsenal outlasted Leicester City 4-3. He looks back on track, especially after having an impressive summer.

Bellerin played for the Spain U21 in the U21 European Championships, losing in the final to Germany. He was responsible for possibly the most delightful video of the tournament.

Bad optics.
