Despite being bought in January, rumors are swirling that Julian Draxler’s time at PSG may be up. Where could he transfer, Liverpool, Arsenal or elsewhere?
Julian Draxler has had a bit of a turbulent start to his career.
After impressing as a young player at Schalke 04, the midfielder made a sideways move to Wolfsburg in 2015 at 21 years old. Kevin de Bruyne had just carried the club to a surprise finish near the top of the table, but had transferred to Manchester City, leaving the German side with £50 million to spend.
According to the player, the move was contingent on an agreement from the club that whenever Draxler wanted to leave, they wouldn’t stand in his way. In his first season at Wolfsburg, he was described as a “foreign body” and questions were raised of his commitment.
Draxler publically tried to leave that summer but Wolfsburg stood in his way. When he returned to the pitch after the transfer window shut, he was vehemently booed by their fans.
In January, the German finally got his move: to PSG. He was to play a complementary role to Edinson Cavani and Angel di Maria, for a club with European ambitions.
Then something funny happened. PSG did the unthinkable and triggered Neymar’s release clause. All of a sudden, that nailed down spot in the first choice XI became unhinged. According to the Mirror, Draxler was “surplus to requirements” and had been offered to Barcelona.
Where should he transfer? Liverpool and Arsenal have been linked in the past, could he go to the Premier League? Or another club?
