4. Diego Costa

No, Chelsea’s enigmatic striker won’t be a part of his squad’s starting XI today, but his spectre will still be looming over the Blues. The fact that he won’t be with his squad at Wembley will continue to be a distraction for his club.

Costa’s absence is symbolic of larger issues between Antonio Conte and his players. He’s made it clear he isn’t pleased with the depth of his squad. The fact that he’s banished such a talented player like Costa has several other players concerned about where they stand with their opinionated manager.

Some might expect that to spur (pun intended) some of Conte’s players into excellent performances designed to keep their place in the squad. One need only look at their struggles against Burnley to see the fault in that way of thinking. The pressure and unrest in the Chelsea dressing room is a meaningful problem.

Tottenham, in sharp contrast, have one of the most harmonious dressing rooms in the Premier League. Yes, Danny Rose wants to earn more money, but otherwise, this is a club that’s united in their quest to please Pochettino and win a Premier League title.
