Several Tottenham stars were shockingly bad against Chelsea

There’s a very reasonable argument to be made that Tottenham deserved much better than yesterday’s 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea. After all, Spurs dominated possession for long stretches of play. Unfortunately, the putrid performances of several players cost Tottenham any opportunity to carry the day against the Blues.

I’ve occasionally been accused of being some sort of “happy clapper” but these player ratings are going to feature some scathing assessments of several members of Tottenham’s starting XI. There was a wide amount of variance between Mauricio Pochettino’s best and worst performers on the day.

Unfortunately for Spurs, the ineptitude of several players cost them any chance to earn a result against Antonio Conte’s club. Chelsea took full advantage of the opportunities presented to them and Marcos Alonso slotted two shots past Hugo Lloris. One of them was an exquisite free kick. The other was not.

Tottenham will hope this uneven performance is just a blip on what could prove to be an outstanding 2017-18 campaign. If not, look for significant changes from Pochettino sooner, rather than later. Read on to discover which Tottenham players should be looking over their shoulder in training this week.
