Liverpool defeat Barcelona and swoop for Real Madrid star
Jurgen Klopp is making big moves at Liverpool
Liverpool have had a very eventful 24 hours in the transfer market. They’ve defeated Barcelona and swooped for a top Real Madrid star. Jurgen Klopp and the rest of the higher-ups at Anfield should be over the moon.
First off, Liverpool seem to have fended off Barcelona’s interest in Philippe Coutinho for the time being. The La Liga giants lodged several bids designed to bring the Brazilian talisman to Spain but Klopp and company have flatly refused to negotiate.
Reports from England claim that Barcelona gave the Reds a deadline of 7 pm Saturday evening to accept their £118 million offer. Many fans believed that Coutinho’s move to Camp Nou was inevitable, but it seems that Liverpool have held firm. That should go down as a massive victory for the Premier League club.

As if that wasn’t enough good news for Liverpool, reports from Spain now claim they’ve launched a massive transfer raid of their own. Instead of losing their star to La Liga, they’re poised to poach a big time talent from Spain’s top flight. The object of Klopp’s affection is Real Madrid midfielder Mateo Kovacic.
Diario Gol believes the Croatian midfielder is ready to take his talents to Anfield, but he is concerned about being blocked by Coutinho in the club’s starting XI. If Klopp can convince him that he’ll be a consistent starter for his club, it’s very possible that the Reds will make one of the Premier League’s most surprising moves of the summer.

Kovacic certainly has the talent to play for a club of Real Madrid’s caliber, but he hasn’t been able to force his way into Zinedine Zidane’s starting XI on a regular basis. Los Blancos loss could end up being Liverpool’s gain in the end. Kovacic could be the missing link in Klopp’s midfield.
The one suspicious aspect of the Spanish reports are the lack of a reported transfer fee. Early indications have been that Real Madrid are willing to accept a fee of somewhere around £40 million. If that’s true, Liverpool would be fools not to rush forward with a bid. However, the fact that no other club has rushed to meet that valuation calls those reports into serious question.

In all honesty, it’s a move that Liverpool need to make almost irrespective of the required fee. They’ve managed to keep hold of Coutinho for now, but the only want to make him stay for the long haul is to surround him with prodigious talent. Purchasing players like Kovacic will give Klopp the chance to keep his Brazilian talisman for years to come.
