Jose Mourinho isn’t satisfied with Manchester United’s start

You might be tempted to believe that everything is tranquil at Old Trafford due to Manchester United’s white-hot start to the campaign. Of course, you’d be wrong. Given Jose Mourinho’s presence in Manchester, things will always be interesting for the Premier League giants.

In particular, The Special One is already pushing for a change in attitude for one of his squad’s most talented players. Lost in the barrage of goals United have opened the season with is the absence of Marcus Rashford’s name on the score sheet.

That fact, coupled with Anthony Martial’s fine pair of goals off the substitute’s bench have a lot of fans questioning whether or not the young Frenchman should force his way into the starting XI. Contrary to that logic, Mourinho believes it’s easy to keep Rashford ahead of Martial in his pecking order.

That does not, however, mean that Mourinho is entirely satisfied with Rashford’s start to the campaign. Instead, his manager wants him to start to embrace the hatred that comes from opposing fans. Mourinho even went so far as to say that Rashford needs to “learn how to enjoy it (the hatred from opposing fans).

More from Manchester United

In fairness to Rashford, just because he hasn’t found the back of the net this season doesn’t mean he hasn’t been an effective member of the squad. He does have an assist already and his play has earned a Whoscored.com player rating of 7.59.  It’s not like Rashford has been dead weight during his two starts.

Even so, Mourinho does have a point. If Martial’s excellent play continues for much longer, he’s going to feel real pressure to remove Rashford from the starting XI. The only way Rashford can keep that from happening is to find the cutting edge of his own game. Adding a little bit of nastiness would only enhance his ability to torment Premier League defenders.
