Arsenal finally offer to overpay a talented attacker

Arsenal are finally ready to spend big

Arsenal fans are desperate to see their club spend big money to keep their talented attacking corps in tact. Fortunately for the Gunners, Arsene Wenger is finally ready to make an over market offer. Unfortunately for the Arsenal fan base, the subject of Wenger’s offer isn’t Alexis Sanchez or Mesut Ozil. Instead, it’s Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain.

The Telegraph are reporting that Arsenal have made the enigmatic winger an outrageous contract offer that would pay him over £180 thousand per week. Amazingly, that would make the Englishman the club’s second highest earner at the moment trailing only new signing Alexandre Lacazette.

In fairness, Arsenal would certainly be willing to pay Alexis and Ozil more than Oxlade-Chamberlain, but neither star has agreed to accept the club’s latest overtures. The news that Wenger has made such a generous offer to Oxlade-Chamberlain will only embolden Ozil and Alexis’ contract demands.

If you’re wondering why Arsenal are willing to go to such great lengths to re-sign Oxlade-Chamberlain, you need only look to Stamford Bridge. Chelsea are reportedly very keen to add the high-level athlete to their squad. Reports even claim that Antonio Conte’s club are willing to pay as much as £35 million to acquire him from the Gunners. That’s a very substantial fee for a player who only has one year left on his current deal.

The Blues are confident they can still secure the player’s services. Conte and company point to his uneasy relationship with Wenger as a reason he’s open for a move. He’s always displayed tons of potential for Arsenal but has never seemed to fully earn his manager’s trust.

Perhaps that’s changed now though. Wenger would only offer a player such a massive wage packet if he was truly prepared to hand him a spot in the club’s starting XI. Such a significant financial offer would seem to bode well for Oxlade-Chamberlain’s chances to finally secure a starring role at Arsenal.

You also have to believe that the possible loss of Ozil and Alexis is also playing a role in this offer. Wenger likely wouldn’t be so desperate to keep hold of Oxlade-Chamberlain if he wasn’t concerned about losing other cogs in his attack. The Frenchman can’t afford to lose multiple attacking players in the same transfer window.

As it stands, it will be up to the player to decide whether or not he truly trusts Arsene Wenger’s faith in him. If he does, he’ll happily accept Arsenal’s generous offer. If not, he’ll become Antonio Conte’s latest recruit at Chelsea.
