Paris Saint-Germain

Unai Emery’s team have strengthened over the summer by bringing key players such as Neymar and Dani Alves. Although, they still have a lot to prove in Europe even with these additions. A major part of this is due to the embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Barcelona. However, the 4-0 victory in the first leg of that fixture proved that they are a talented team. It’s just naturally overshadowed by the embarrassing collapse, but that might give them the necessary motivation this season.

The Parisians have started the season well with three wins out of three. In those games they have scored eleven and conceded two, which is impressive. Neymar has settled in quickly as he has been involved in six goals (three goals, three assists) in two games. The Brazilian is an extremely talented footballer, and giving him the freedom to express himself could work wonders for PSG. It might be what the team needs to push it to the next level in Europe.

In terms of the squad, the only concerns are defensive midfield and the striker position. Thiago Motta isn’t the most athletic and is past his peak while Grzegorz Krychowiak hasn’t settled in even though he has been there over a year. Adrien Rabiot and Marco Verratti are both able to play there, but it suits neither of them. Edinson Cavani is a prolific striker, but his conversion of key chances is low. Although, this could be solved by the potential transfer of Kylian Mbappé.

They certainly have the quality in the team needed for a Champions League winning side, but it depends on whether Emery can bring it all together in a cohesive unit. The mentality issues also have to be solved before they get anywhere significant in Europe.
