Leeds United goalkeeper Rob Green is having a medical at Huddersfield Town ahead of joining the club on a one-year deal this summer.

According to Sky Sports News, the 37-year-old Green is set to join the Terriers as an experienced backup option behind starting goalkeeper Jonas Lossl.

Green will depart the Elland Road club after just one season between the sticks, where he made 46 appearances in the Championship.

Despite putting in some solid performances as the team’s starter last season, Green has only made one EFL Cup appearance this time out.

Green will bring plenty of experience to Huddersfield, one of the Premier League’s newest teams, and will be a valuable backup to David Wagner’s team.

More from Playing for 90

Since making his professional debut for Norwich City in 1999, Green has picked up 609 league appearances and was at one stage the first choice goalkeeper for the England national team.

Green’s tenure between the sticks for the Three Lions, who he earned 12 caps for, was unremarkable.

A poor mistake during England’s 2010 World Cup fixture against the USA seeing him dropped and the aging David James take over for the rest of the tournament.

Despite this, Green has been a solid, regular starter for clubs such as Norwich, West Ham United, Queens Park Rangers and, most recently, with Leeds.

Not many players can boast over 600 league appearances and the opportunity to bring in someone with that much experience to help guide the Terriers’ young goalkeeping corps is a smart move by Wagner.

Huddersfield has made a positive start to life in the Premier League, picking up two wins and a draw in their first three fixtures.

To top it all off, the Terriers’ strong defensive efforts have seen the club pick up three consecutive clean sheets in the top-tier of English football, with Crystal Palace, Newcastle, and Southampton all failing to find the back of the net.

The set up at Huddersfield is ideal for Rob Green, who will understand his place in the team’s pecking order and if he makes some cup appearances throughout the season he can be assured of some competent defensive play in front of him.
