While Chelsea made some impressive signings, their transfer window will be most remembered for the Diego Costa saga. The Spaniard was told to leave over text by manager Antonio Conte and he hasn’t been seen since. That set the tone for a disappointing window for the Blues.

The Premier League’s defending champions lost out on Romelu Lukaku to Manchester United. They were then rejected by Alex Oxlade Chamberlain, Fernando Llorente and Ross Barkley close to deadline day. Their decision to sell Nemanja Matic to Manchester United baffled fans and pundits alike. Their plight hasn’t been helped by Matic’s superb start to the season.

However they signed Alvaro Morata to their attack and he has made a good start to life in England, scoring twice in three games. Tiemoue Bakayoko is a direct replacement for Matic. While Antonio Rudiger has looked nervy in defense so far. Danny Drinkwater signed from Leicester City on deadline day and is set to be one of Chelsea’s reserve midfielders. While Davide Zappacosta will provide cover in the wing back position.

Chelsea’s season started just like their transfer window did with a defeat to Burnley on opening day. However, just like they did in their transfer business, the Blues have made a strong comeback with wins against Tottenham and Everton before the international break. They are set to be the biggest challenge to the Manchester clubs for the league title this season.
