Gareth Bale didn’t think Manchester United were good enough
It’s no secret that Jose Mourinho desperately wants to bring Gareth Bale to Manchester United. The Special One has mentioned him repeatedly to the press since his arrival at Old Trafford. What is new information, is the story that the Welshman snubbed the Red Devils on Deadline Day.
Sources from Spain allege that United tried to make a stealthy swoop for Bale late in the transfer window. Per reports, Mourinho and company sanctioned a massive £90 million bid for the talented attacker.
That massive amount of cash was enough to get Real Madrid’s attention. In fact, Florentino Perez was ready to move on from Bale. Zinedine Zidane was reluctant to sign off on the decision, but was willing to sell Bale if it allowed the club to sign Kylian Mbappe.
Unfortunately for the Premier League giants, Bale wasn’t interested in returning to England and playing for Mourinho. As the story goes, he’s consumed by the idea of winning trophies on a regular basis and sees Real Madrid as better positioned to do that than Manchester United. It’s pretty difficult to argue with that line of thinking.

It is reasonable to wonder if Bale will start to alter his thinking if he finds himself on the fringes of Zidane’s squad. He was once thought to be Cristiano Ronaldo’s heir apparent, but now it seems that CR7 might outlast him at the Bernabeu.
This season will be crucial for Bale if he wants to secure an immediate future at Real Madrid. He needs to enjoy a productive, and healthy campaign for the La Liga giants. Bale may not look like the same player he was when he left England, but it’s possible that a recovery to full fitness could restore him to his former glory. If that happens, Real Madrid will be happy to build their attack around him for years to come.
