Tottenham signing Barkley in January is not a certainty

The prevailing wisdom around the world of football at the moment is that Ross Barkley signing with Tottenham in January is a foregone conclusion. On the contrary, there are quite a few reasons why Spurs may not sign the Everton star during the winter transfer window.

In fairness, there are a lot of signings pointing to Barkley moving to North London sometime in the next 12 months. It’s hard to see a reconciliation between the talented midfielder and Toffees manager Ronald Koeman. The strong-willed manager has already discussed Barkley’s exit too much in the press to backtrack without losing serious credibility.

If he’s going to leave Goodison Park, choosing to play for Mauricio Pochettino seems like a logical landing spot. Barkley clearly places a great deal of emphasis on his ability to secure a spot in England’s upcoming World Cup squad. Spurs’ Argentine boss has transformed several of Tottenham’s young stars into England regulars during his relatively brief time at the club.

With all that being said, Barkley signing with Spurs in January is not the absolute certainty it’s being made out to be. At best, it’s a 50/50 proposition at the current point in time. There are just too many things that could scupper a deal between now and the winter window. Read on to discover the top five reasons Tottenham may not sign Ross Barkley in January.
