3. Barkley could experience a change of heart

The relationship between Everton and Barkley certainly isn’t good at the moment. That doesn’t mean the damage is irreparable though. January is a long way away. That affords the Toffees and their midfielder a lot of time to repair the damage.

Remember, Barkley grew up at Everton. He’s made friendships there that will last a lifetime. At some point, that’s going to tug at his heartstrings. He may truly believe that leaving is the best thing for his career, but that doesn’t mean it will be easy for him personally.

The biggest obstacle between he and the club right now is his manager. As long as Koeman is in charge, it’s hard to see Barkley staying put. If Koeman were to leave though, things could change dramatically in an instant.

Again, that’s not the most likely scenario, but it’s far from impossible. Koeman has made no secret of his desire to manage Barcelona. Would anyone really be surprised to see Ernesto Valverde fail miserably? If that happens, Koeman could abandon England for one of Europe’s top managerial posts.
