Expect a conservative starting XI from Tottenham

It may be unfair to call Saturday’s contest against Everton a must win for Tottenham, but it’s certainly a match that could mean a lot for Mauricio Pochettino’s squad. Three points against the Toffees could go a long way towards making up for the club’s dropped points against Chelsea and Burnley.

Of course, the larger story here is how Pochettino may choose to integrate new signings into his squad against Everton. In particular, loads of Spurs fans want to get their first look at Serge Aurier and Fernando Llorente this weekend.

Forgive me for being the bearer of bad news. It would be a major surprise if either new signing appears in Pochettino’s starting XI. Both could be in line for important cameos off the substitute’s bench, but expect the Argentine boss to stick to a much more familiar group to start the match.

Think of this as a transition lineup from Pochettino. It isn’t the group that’s going to start the club’s most important matches at the end of the season. By the close of the campaign, new signings and several stars returning from injury will drastically change the way this squad looks.

Pochettino isn’t looking that far ahead this weekend though. Instead, he’ll start the 11 players he trusts the most at this current point in time. Read on to discover which Spurs stars will be trusted to defeat Everton this weekend.
