Right back-Kieran Trippier

Let me start off by dashing your hopes of seeing Serge Aurier make it into the starting XI. The reality is he only managed to make it to North London on Thursday afternoon. That doesn’t give him enough time to unseat Trippier for the starting nod.

The midweek match against Dortmund is an entirely different question though. This is a positional battle that’s going to heat up almost immediately.

Left back-Ben Davies

Until Danny Rose fully recovers his fitness, Ben Davies is a lock to start out on the left. He isn’t a dynamic attacking presence, but he’s been one of the club’s best players to start this season. The Welshman will be tested mightily against Everton’s talented attacking midfield.

Centre Back-Jan Vertonghen

Quietly but surely, Vertonghen has arguably become the club’s top defender. He doesn’t showcase the flashy passing ability of Alderweireld or the pace of the fullbacks, but he’s been a rock in front of Hugo Lloris. He’ll be the man tasked with quieting down Gylfi Sigurdsson and company.

Centre Back-Toby Alderweireld

Vertonghen will be flanked, as usual, by his countryman in the starting XI. The only real drama here is whether or not Davinson Sanchez would start and cause Pochettino to switch to a back five. Look for the Colombian to start this match on the bench which means Alderweireld and Vertonghen will be the only two centre backs on display.
