Striker-Harry Kane

Good news Tottenham fans, August is over! Now that it’s September, it’s easy for Pochettino to place his English talisman in his starting XI.

Of course Kane is the first name on the Tottenham team sheet whenever he’s fit. The fact that he found the back of the net for England only strengthens his case to play. He’s desperate to end his goal scoring drought in the Premier League and look for him to take more than his share of shots against the Toffees.

Keeper-Hugo Lloris

This selection is even more obvious than picking Kane. As long as Lloris is fit, he’s going to start the club’s biggest matches. Saturday’s contest at Everton certainly qualifies as an important fixture. As such, the Frenchman will start in goal.

The Bench-Fernando Llorente, Serge Aurier and Harry Winks

I don’t normally take a stab at naming the three Spurs’ substitutes, but the arrival of new signings make it a more interesting proposition this week. This is where new arrivals could greatly influence the match.

While I expect Trippier to start the match, he did pull out of the England squad due to injury. It might be a stretch to play him for the full 90 minutes. Giving Aurier a 10-20 minute run out would be good for both players.

Kane’s efforts for England this week also make playing a full 90 minutes a bit of a dicey proposition for him too. Llorente on the other hand, is just returning to full fitness. Ideally, Pochettino can put him on late to help ice the match. It’s also very possible he’ll come on as a second striker to chase a late goal.

Lastly, Harry Winks should benefit from the lack of other options in the midfield. With Wanyama unavailable, he almost has to play off the substitute’s bench. Hopefully, he’ll be brought on his his favourite role of killing off a Spurs win.
