Tottenham’s new signings: The chances each star will play v Everton
4. Juan Foyth
Pochettino has been effusive with his praise of the Argentine centre back this week, but that doesn’t mean he’s going to make an impact this weekend. The centre back pairing of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld will relegate Foyth to a bench role for the foreseeable future.
Unlike the case of Gazzaniga, Foyth has a significant opportunity to make an impact on the first team this year. If, as expected, Spurs transition to playing three at the back, he’ll likely find himself as the club’s top substitute off the bench. That should at least put him in good position to secure starts in lower level Cup matches.
It’s not impossible that he’ll play on Saturday, but it would take an injury or two to get him onto the pitch. He certainly isn’t going to play ahead of fellow new signing Davinson Sanchez. It’s also possible that Pochettino would slide Dier into a back four prior to bringing Foyth into the fray.
In the end, Foyth has a slight chance to see action at Everton, but Spurs fans should hope he doesn’t get near the pitch. His appearance on the field would mean a disastrous injury situation for Spurs.
