Ben Davies-9
The Welshman still isn’t as good as Danny Rose, but he’s closed the gap massively since the Englishman went out last season with a knee injury. If not for Kane’s brace he could have easily been named man of the match after his stellar performance.
This is one of the first matches where Davies really got forward enough to call himself a proper wingback. Particularly in the first half, he had numerous opportunities to provide dangerous crosses into the box. Unfortunately for Davies, he couldn’t quite find the range to give his side an early advantage.
In the second half he was able to find Kane with a perfect pass. It was a great validation for a terrific shift by Davies. Pochettino will hope he can keep it up against Dortmund this week.
Kieran Trippier-6.5
Some will look at Trippier’s performance and wonder why I don’t give him credit for his assist. Remember, all he did was pass the ball forward to Kane who scored on an attempted cross. All assists aren’t created equal.
In fairness to Trippier, it may have been his best outing of the season. He at least managed to keep attackers in front of him for the majority of the match. It’s time we adjust our expectations for Trippier. If he can play a Premier League match and avoid costing Spurs a goal, it has to be called a success.
