Tottenham desperately need a win to open the Group stage

It’s no secret that Tottenham were embarrassed by their failure to advance to the Champions League knockout round last season despite what seemed to be an easy draw. This year, things are much different for Spurs. They enter the prestigious competition as the underdog to make it out of the Group stage.

That’s precisely why Mauricio Pochettino’s squad must start their Champions League campaign with a win against Dortmund today. Dropping points at home to the Bundesliga side would put Spurs in a very precarious situation. Don’t forget, Real Madrid loom as the likely favourite to win the group.

It’s also a key match for Tottenham because they need to silence all talk of any sort of Wembley hoodoo. Spurs simply haven’t played well in their temporary home. Wembley was the site of their Champions League failure last season and dropped points on two occasions to begin the current Premier League campaign.

If Tottenham are going to emerge as legitimate threats to win the Premier League or make noise in the Champions League, they’ll need to win key fixtures like this at Wembley. Read on to discover the top five reasons that Spurs will emerge victorious over their talented German competitors.
