Defensive Midfielder-Harry Winks

Tottenham’s most overrated player should get his opportunity to start this match. Winks has been battling an injury, but I’d expect him to recover in enough time to join the starting XI on Tuesday.

For the record, I happen to like Winks as a player. He gives Pochettino a midfield option that can really keep the ball ticking. That’s a valuable skill. I do not, however, believe he is the second coming of Iniesta as many Spurs social media fans seem to think.

The only way Winks doesn’t get the start is if he isn’t fully fit. You know the young Englishman will be desperate to get on the pitch and try to make a positive impression on his manager.

Defensive Midfielder-Moussa Sissoko

Ironically, Pochettino is likely to start the most maligned player on Spurs’ social media next to the most lauded. That means Sissoko will be Harry Winks’ partner against Barnsley.

In truth, I wavered back and forth between choosing Sissoko or Eric Dier here. It could easily turn out to be the English international pushing the Frenchman either further forward or to the bench. I chose Sissoko because of the need to give Dier a bit of rest before a key upcoming run of fixtures.

On the bright side, we have seen glimpses of quality from the Frenchman as of late. He may never justify his £30 million price tag, but he could develop into an important part of Pochettino’s squad. Performing in matches like this is key in his effort to become a usable player for Spurs.
