Group A

Benfica 1 CSKA Moscow 2

In a small shock Benfica were overcome by the Russian heavyweights in Lisbon.  These teams were relatively similar from a talent perspective but being the home team in one of Europe’s most intimidating stadiums Benfica were expected to win this match.  They’ll be working uphill for the rest of the season.

Manchester United 3 FC Basel 0

Manchester United made their return to the Champions League with a comfortable victory over Swiss champions FC Basel.  The match went well for United with Romelu Lukaku continuing his red-hot form.  Unfortunately Paul Pogba who was also selected as captain for the match sustained an injury and will be out for a minimum of several weeks.
