Davinson Sanchez-7

If I’ve said it once, I’ve said it one thousand times: Sanchez was not purchased to be Tottenham’s prettiest player on the pitch. The Colombian was brought in to provide no-nonsense defending at the back for his manager.

That’s precisely what he did at Huddersfield. It wasn’t his best outing due to a questionable tackle in the box, but he did enough to help Spurs keep a clean sheet. I’m strongly considering renaming this rating a “Sanchez 7” for the rest of the season.

Toby Alderweireld-7

Alderweireld bounced back from a very mediocre midweek performance against APOEL with a solid outing in this one. He wasn’t asked to do very much by his teammates, but he did everything that was required.

Per usual, he looked to cut open the opposition with his long diagonal passing. It wasn’t pinpoint on the afternoon, but it did help open up Huddersfield’s back line. Alderweireld will be asked to do much more defending in the coming weeks.

Jan Vertonghen-7.5

Vertonghen gets a slightly higher rating than his central defensive compatriots due to his efforts getting forward. None of his marauding runs really led to any quality chances, but he does give the opposition something to really consider.

In defense, he wasn’t asked to do a lot but he made every clearance necessary. It was another good outing for arguably Pochettino’s top centre back.
