4. Kieran Trippier

If this piece would have been written before the start of the season, Trippier might have been number one. The contrast between he and Serge Aurier has clued many Tottenham fans on Trippier’s liabilities as the young season’s progressed.

Trippier is a quality Premier League backup. He does not have the talent or athleticism to stand up defensively against top flight competition. Any time he’s put in a one v one situation with a world-class attacker Tottenham fans are forced to hold their breath and/or cover their eyes.

Fortunately, Pochettino’s club usually enjoys long spells of time on the ball. That advantage in possession plays to Trippier’s strengths. When he’s given time and space on the ball, he can pick out devastating crosses into the box. It’s that skill that helps make up for his lack of defensive prowess.

One can only hope that Serge Aurier continues to put distance between himself and Trippier in Pochettino’s eyes as the season goes on. Trippier’s lack of quick twitch athleticism makes that a pretty safe bet. He’s a decent player, but not a starter for a club looking to win serious silverware.
