Arsenal are eyeing a January deal for Hirving Lozano
Arsene Wenger and Arsenal are finally starting to make concrete plans for life after Alexis Sanchez. If the Chilean does leave North London, signing Mexican winger Hirving Lozano would certainly be a good place to start.
The Gunners are one of quite a few clubs interested in making a January move for the PSV Eindhoven star. It’s rumoured that a transfer bid of just £20 million could be enough to convince the Dutch powers to sell. That’s a very modest sum given the insanity of today’s transfer market.
It’s not an exaggeration to say that Lozano has lit the Eredivisie on fire since signing for PSV this summer. He’s scored six goals in his six domestic matches and has earned a Whoscored.com player rating average of 8.31. It’s hard to imagine a player having a better start with his new club.
On the other hand, scoring goals in the Eredivisie is much easier than finding offensive success in the Premier League. Transfer moves between the Dutch league and England’s top flight are littered with records of massive failures.

Arsenal only need to ask their arch rivals how such a move could go wrong. Spurs believed they had solved their backup striker problem with the purchase of Vincent Janssen after he posted a prolific season for AZ Alkmaar. Now Janssen has been frozen out of the Tottenham squad and is on loan at Fenerbahce.
Despite the risk, this is just the sort of move that Wenger and company should be trying to pull off. The chances of replacing Alexis Sanchez with a fully established star may well be impossible. At the very least it would prove to be a very expensive proposition for the Gunners.
The right strategy for Arsenal is to spread their resources out on young talents who might grow into becoming the club’s next world-class attacker. Lozano may be a risky purchase, but he has a very high ceiling. It wouldn’t shock anyone if he developed into a Premier League star.

Arsenal aren’t the only club to see his potential though. If Lozano really is available for just £20 million, quite a few big European clubs may elect to join the fray. Wenger and company will need to move quickly once the winter window opens if they want to complete this excellent transfer deal.
