Danny Rose is a prime target for Manchester United

Manchester United would love to sign Danny Rose in January. Don’t expect Daniel Levy to make negotiations easy on Ed Woodward. You can count on any negotiations for the talented left back to be long and painful for Jose Mourinho’s club.

Reports from England claim that Rose has already decided to snub Chelsea in favour of signing for United. That sounds great in theory, but the talented fullback isn’t the only person involved in these negotiations. Tottenham are under no pressure to sell Rose and as such, will feel comfortable demanding a huge transfer fee for his signature.

You can be sure that Levy and company will be determined not to appear soft to the club’s passionate fan base. The last thing Spurs fans want to see is the club capitulating to a Premier League rival. The sale of Kyle Walker to Manchester City already has some fans irritated with the club’s transfer policy.

On the other hand, Rose does appear open to making the move to Old Trafford. If he’s willing to exert some additional pressure on Spurs, they may decide that selling him is best for the dressing room. Even if that happens, Levy is going to demand a small fortune for him.

More from Manchester United

That, in and of itself, won’t be a problem for United. Woodward has a clear mandate to purchase players that Mourinho covets. Left back has been a problem for the club due to the poor play of Luke Shaw. The former Southampton player could easily be included in the deal to placate Spurs’ need for a backup for Ben Davies.

As usual, you can expect this transfer negotiation to come down to the almighty pound. If United are willing to massively overpay Spurs for Rose, then a deal is possible. That would require United to exceed the £50 million plus that City were required to stump for Walker. At that price, United may decide that purchasing Rose just isn’t worth the hassle.

The one sure thing in all of this is that Tottenham are going to make any negotiations for Rose an absolute nightmare for United. Daniel Levy wouldn’t have it any other way.
