The conflict between Gareth Bale and Marco Asensio at Real Madrid has been a longtime coming and as with all things Real Madrid looks to have a dramatic and messy resolution.

Real Madrid are struggling in the league at the moment.  Say nothing of the fact that the season is only 7 matches into it’s 38 match long course it is crisis time in Madrid.  Gareth Bale has while being wildly successful in terms of trophies won never met the heights that were expected of him when he set a world record transfer from Tottenham.

Gareth Bale was expected to surpass Cristiano Ronaldo and eventually turn into essentially the same player.  Ronaldo then found another gear and Bale has found himself to be something of an afterthought with even Real Madrid youth players stepping out of line to question his standing in the team.

The latest news out of Real Madrid is that Marco Asensio is “despairing” over Real Madrid’s form in the league.  He is also apparently blaming Gareth Bale for their position in the league.

Asensio “reportedly believes that Bale is hampering Real’s chances of retaining both La Liga and Champions League trophies scooped last term.”  That is the most insane thing that I have read in the past 12 months and I’ll highlight I am both a fan of Chuck Pahlunuik and Bukowski.  If Asensio is such a poor team member that he is publicly blaming Gareth Bale’s injuries this season for Real Madrid’s form then it is more likely that Asensio is the problem.

It’s true Gareth Bale has spent a lot of time injured.  Being one of the best 10 players in the world is only useful if you’re on the pitch in the first place.  That said Asensio seems to be conveniently forgetting that Karim Benzema has either been injured or awful this season and that Cristiano Ronaldo in a moment of true resounding brilliance earned a 5 match ban for shoving a referee.

Unfortunately, it appears that Asensio’s interest is more based in the fact that Bale is his direct positional rival at Real Madrid.  That attitude in and of it itself is what’s wrong at Real Madrid this season not their health or luck.

Real Madrid are the most talented team in Europe at the moment, by far.  However they apparently have been struck by a bout of selfishness that seemingly is the only thing that can ever actually derail Madrid in the first place.  So in a way it’s what’s best for the rest of European football that Asensio is as misled as he is.
