3. They finally have a goalie

Guardiola didn’t much care for Joe Hart, whom he sent packing fairly quickly after taking over. He brought in Claudio Bravo, who could look great at times but startlingly bad at others. After having some solid campaigns in Spain with Real Sociedad and then with Barcelona, he just looked clumsy and unprepared for the Premier League. If they had an upgrade in net last season, then it’s possible City could have challenged Chelsea.

That’s why they brought in Ederson, a 24-year-old Brazilian international in his first year at City. So far he has done quite well. In 11 games in all competitions he has allowed just six goals, and more than one just once–a 7-2 blowout win over Stoke. He is an aggressive goalie who comes off his line a lot, but with his youth comes incredible athleticism and reflexes.

While his great saves are marvelous, I’m sure he will be told to control his aggression coming out of his net in the latter stages of the Champions League. Because there he will face either Real Madrid or PSG, teams that can make you pay for coming out of the net too quickly. His save at 1:10 looks very much like David De Gea, who may soon have competition for the best goalkeeper in Manchester.
