Serge Aurier-8

The first thing we need to establish about Aurier’s performance is the degree of difficulty. He was asked to play out of position as a left back due to the lack of availability of both Ben Davies and Danny Rose. You have to grade him on a curve given that reality.

Considering that he was playing at a new spot, he was terrific against Klopp’s side. He did get caught on the wrong side of Salah for the Egyptian’s goal, but that’s hardly a sin. Overall he put in an excellent shift under very challenging circumstances. Perhaps most importantly, he didn’t even pick up a controversial foul in this match.

Kieran Trippier-7.5

This was one of Trippier’s best performances of the season. Not only did he provide Kane a lovely assist to open the match’s scoring, he also held up defensively all match long.

His defensive contributions are much more surprising than his offensive plaudits. It’s no secret he can pick a smart pass when he’s given time and space on the ball. The questions about Trippier’s game have always been about whether or not he can really cope with elite attackers.

Pochettino’s game plan gave him plenty of support Sunday, but he still did his job on the defensive end of the pitch. He might not have started this match if the gaffer had all his left backs available, but he showed up big against a talented opponent.
