Chelsea FC fans are calling for the right move after Saturday’s match against Watford.  Cesar Azpilicueta has for a long time been the right choice to be captain of Chelsea Football Club.

Chelsea FC suffers from a problem that most other major clubs don’t seem to as badly.  A lack of professionalism.  It’s why the club wins the league and then putters around the following year like a bunch of fools the next.  It’s a simple thing honestly and the sort of thing that could be eradicated with good management.  Naming Cesar Azpilicueta captain of Chelsea FC would be a step in the right direction for not only the club but the club’s style of management.

Just because there is always a captain on the field does not mean that there’s always a captain at the club.  Despite the fact that Gary Cahill started wearing the armband last season it was very clear to everybody at Chelsea FC that John Terry was still the captain of the club and his legend looms large.

The following will be tough for many Chelsea supporters to take but it’s the truth and they’ll know it in the bottom of their hearts.

It’s important Chelsea go in a new direction than that of John Terry.  It was during Terry’s reign that the era of indecency and lack of professionalism started.  Terry staying on as captain despite his legion of ridiculous issues is one of the reasons why Chelsea now struggle with professionalism issues.

This is a man who slept with one of his teammates wives/ex-wife.  Regardless that woman was the mother of his teammates child.  He had apparently gotten her pregnant and paid for an abortion all the while married and the father of two children.

If that wasn’t enough, though it was for Fabio Capello whose judgement is historically good by the way, he also sold tours of the training ground, was convicted of racism, arrested and charged with assault and suspended for the Champions League final because of violent behavior (the needless knee to the spine of Sanchez).

John Terry was a phenomenal defender and a terrible example to every single one of his teammates.  In his mid 30’s he developed an interest in professionalism but that was only after years of being a heavy boozer.  He has been kicked out of nightclubs on several occasions for drunken behavior.

The truth is how would a team think they could act if their captain behaved in that sense?  Cesar Azpilicueta is the opposite. I’ve said on a litany of new occasions that he was the new Javier Zanetti.  His unbelievable ability to adapt and play multiple positions as well as the fact that he’s consistent matters.  He regularly comments on youth players Instagrams that they should be sleeping.

He leads the team during matches even though he doesn’t have the armband. He is encouraging and a fighter and a hard worker.  Cesar Azpilicueta is exactly the sort of material that captains are made of.  He’s not the most talented player on the field.  He’s a hard worker who gets his head down and does his job phenomenally every week.

Cesar Azpilicueta is exactly the captain that Chelsea need to end the rampant self-interest, lack of professionalism and selfishness amongst the playing staff.  They all seem to forget that in football the club comes before the individual and until that is remembered Chelsea will never be the club they should be.  Cesar Azpilicueta is the captain to take Chelsea in that direction.
