Social media plays a massive part in football nowadays, which is unsurprising. The rise of the technological era has played a part in the modern game, which is why there’s a lot of scrutiny placed on the likes of Twitter, Instagram, etc. when it comes to transfer rumours. This has been the case once again, as Dejan Lovren’s Liverpool career looks to hit a standstill, and his social media activity has shown that.
At first sight of Dejan Lovren’s Instagram page, you would imagine he’s only just made his account. That is until you see the blue tick and his follower count. Yep, some pretty weird stuff has been going down.
After the game against Tottenham, which saw Dejan Lovren substituted in the first half following a poor performance, the Croatian defender removed ‘Liverpool’ from his bio and also removed his profile picture.
It’s not hard to see why; football fans, or sports fans in general, like to hop on to social media to make their thoughts known. More often than not, the thoughts are negative, which can hurt the player, because at the end of the day, they’re human too.
Many Liverpool fans have been furious at the defender, and rightly so. Although he’s not the only cause of Liverpool’s problems, he’s been at fault for a lot of the goals Liverpool have conceded.

Jurgen Klopp made his frustrations clear, as he replaced the Croatian with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain early on in the first half. This has resulted in questions and speculations over his future, and many can’t see him playing for Liverpool again. Who would blame them?
For the first goal, Dejan Lovren looked too scared to be marking Harry Kane, as he backed off the Englishman and gave him as much room as he possibly could, which we all know is a huge mistake.
The second goal was the polar opposite. Lovren clearly understood that he had done wrong for the first goal and wanted to make amends, but the way he went about it was disastrous.
A ball made its way up the pitch to where Lovren was marking Harry Kane, but the Croatian made a costly mistake by pushing too far forward to win the header, but he went that far forward that the ball went over him and fell to Harry Kane who shown great skill to pick out the pass to Son Heung-Min who finished it nicely.

Dejan Lovren’s Liverpool career should surely be drawn to a close now, and not just because of this game. He has been in terrible form all season long, and in my opinion, he is the reason for Liverpool’s defensive frailties.
