Manchester United’s five most overrated players: Several starters make the list
By Josh McSwain
1. Anthony Martial
While his numbers so far this season look good, there’s a lot more going on under the surface. He usually comes on late after Marcus Rashford has run the opposition up and down the field. Therefore, he gets cherry picked goals against lesser and tired opposition. When he has started this season or faced a comparable opposition he has not looked so good.
While he is still young and still adjusting to how he will be used by Jose Mourinho, I just don’t think there is greatness in his future like I thought back in 2015-16. Of course he led the team in goals that season under Louis Van Gaal but it was by default. The fact he did so with 17 goals that season in all competitions should tell you something else. He’s a nice player to have but at the moment he’s just a rotational player.
He may finish better than Rashford but that’s all he has on him right now. I certainly wish the bet for the young man going forward but I honestly wouldn’t be surprised if he is replaced at some point. His lack of defensive contributions will drive Mourinho crazy and he just doesn’t seem like a winger. He doesn’t get crosses in well enough and he won’t get time at striker because of Romelu Lukaku being the main guy, Zlatan Ibrahimovic still on the team (for now) and then Rashford might still be above him on the pecking order there.

While the young Frenchman has put up some goals and still has potential, I say right now he is the most overrated player currently on the squad.
