4. Chelsea = Denver Broncos

There is a cold ruthlessness to Chelsea and Denver. They seemingly turn out well-balanced teams every season regardless who is the coach or the QB or the striker. Despite relative success both keep a regular turnover of head coach.

The real secret to these clubs’ success lies not on the sidelines but upstairs with recruitment. John Elway has proven to be one of the best shapers of an NFL roster in the last 10 years, keeping them full of talent. Chelsea stockpile young talent and then turn it into first teamers or sold for a profit. Write them off at your peril.

3. Tottenham Hotspur – Kansas City Chiefs

Both of these sides scream strength right now. You have to respect both their offensive and defensive capabilities and plan accordingly. Kansas City have not won a championship since 1970. Tottenham’s wait goes back even further to 1961.

The question is although they have excellent coaches in Mauricio Pochettino and Andy Reid do they have the magic, or mentality, to go all the way. Two long waiting fanbases are seriously hoping that this is their year before the window closes again.

2. Manchester United = New England Patriots

Two sides synonymous with success and evil. Close calls go their way with suspicious regularity. Getting a decision to go your way at Old Trafford or Foxborough is about as regular as a lunar eclipse on February 29th.

There are great similarities between Bill Belichick and the retired Alex Ferguson; both masters of the Dark Arts of winning at all costs. They would get on well. Current United boss Jose Mourinho fits in nicely to this company of villains. We hate them because they win.

1. Manchester City = Dallas Cowboys

Money talks. Do they do a good job of youth recruitment? Not really. Do they waste money every off-season? Guaranteed. None of that matters as they get out the checkbook (chequebook) and flash those dollars (pounds) and make those problems go away. They both owe their financial advantage to oil.

Next: Liverpool soften stance on Coutinho and Barcelona

The black gold of Texas and Dubai helping them rise to the top of their sports. Now because of the draft and salary cap in the NFL eventually you have to make some smart decisions to win. CIty have an exciting young attack with Kevin de Bruyne, Gabriel Jesus and Leroy Sane. Dallas are similarly set with Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.
