Hugo Lloris-7

Tottenham’s French keeper wasn’t put under a ton of pressure in this match, but he did play well when it counted. He was quick off his line to snuff out several United attacks and he made a key second half save against Lukaku that kept Spurs on even footing.

He didn’t have much chance to keep Martial’s goal out of the back of the net. The blame there lies entirely with Dier and Alderweireld. Lloris couldn’t reasonably be expected to stop Martial when he broke through clear on goal.

Mousa Dembele-6.5

The match was crying out for Dembele before Pochettino brought him on for Sissoko. When he arrived on the scene, he gave Spurs a real presence in the middle of the pitch.

The physical midfielder used his keen sense of body positioning to keep the ball on several occasions. Perhaps he could have gotten forward a bit more, but he gave his squad enough of the ball to create quality scoring chances.

Fernando Llorente-5

The Spanish striker arguably should have started the match, but nothing about his appearance would back that claim up. He was a non-factor during his time on the pitch.

I was most disappointed with his lack of positional awareness. On several occasions he dropped way too deep to try to hold play up. His lack of foot speed makes him useless away from goal. Even if he feels isolated, Llorente must stay on the back shoulder of the opposing back line. He didn’t do that against United and Spurs paid the price.
