Alvaro Morata made the apparent mistake of giving a rather line-straddling interview to the Italian media.
The interview in question is one in which he either claimed he couldn’t wait to leave London or he suggested something rather close to it in circumstances where a better approach would have suited best. Either Alvaro Morata is unhappy in London and wants to leave or he is an absolute idiot with genuinely no awareness of professional media behavior becoming a professional. Neither one is OK.
In a recent statement given in response to this issue Morata has since clarified saying that he would stay at Chelsea for 10 years. That statement comes as a contradiction to what the Italian media claim Morata said as well.
The truth here is that without a direct recording of Morata’s words to the Italian media sources we’ll never know exactly what it is he said regarding his relationships with Chelsea, Juventus and Real Madrid. What we do know is that Morata comes off seemingly wildly childish and immature.
It’s unfortunate because for a player with his obvious natural ability it is the mental side of being a professional that will go a long way towards deciding who he is in this sport. Chelsea should feel aggrieved with his behavior. Never before has a club taken a gamble on Morata.
Real Madrid treated him poorly and Juventus did not fight to keep him though they had the option and were offered it by Real Madrid. Alvaro Morata should be far more polite and grateful towards Chelsea Football Club for giving him a chance. He unfortunately appears to be just another spoiled, ungrateful and out of touch young millionaire footballer.
That’s the sad thing here is Morata misrepresents himself. That’s not who he is but it will be hard to shake that reputation in future. First impressions, and he hasn’t had much of a public presence in England yet, tend to stick.

Morata has the potential very possibly to be the best striker in the history of Chelsea by the numbers. If continues playing at Chelsea for 8 seasons scoring 28 goals a season (which with Champions League play) should be possible he’ll be remembered forever as a legend and treated as such. It’s unfortunate that he seems to have no interest in repaying the faith Chelsea placed in him and that Juventus and Real Madrid were so quick to abandon in him. Shame really.
