Manchester United: 5 January transfer targets for Jose Mourinho

Mesut Ozil
Another player who has been heavily linked with Manchester United in recent weeks, Mesut Ozil could prove to be a shrewd signing for the Red Devils. While some of his performances over the last couple of years may have suggested that he is not good enough to play at the highest level, his stats suggest otherwise.
Ozil has created a league high 30 chances for his teammates, a figure only matched by Kevin de Bruyne. While Ozil has been often criticized for his performances, de Bruyne is already considered a favorite for the PFA Player of the Year award.

Another reason for Manchester United to make a move for the German World Cup winner is that he will be available for a cut-price fee, with his contract expiring at the end of the season.
The three players who play in Ozil’s position at United; Mata, Henrikh Mkhitaryan and Jesse Lingard have all disappointed so far this season. So it makes sense for the club to pursue a player of Ozil’s talent and caliber. Manchester United manager Jose Mourinho knows how to get the best out of the play-maker, as was evidenced by the their time at Real Madrid.
So a reunion at Old Trafford makes sense. Even if Ozil may not get as much game time at United, he will create plenty of chances for his teammates, something which has been lacking in the absence of Paul Pogba.
