Arjen Robben

It became apparent during Chelsea’s match against Roma that one of the biggest issues with the squad has been a lack of leadership.  Arjen Robben who’s contract will be up at Bayern Munich at the end of this season could do a lot to help fix that.

Chelsea could pitch this as a homecoming of sorts.  A young Arjen Robben first made his name in Europe with Chelsea after having trained at PSV in his early years.  Having played at Real Madrid and Bayern Munich since then it would be nice for both sides to be reunited.

In a letter to his 16-year old self Arjen Robben wrote about how much Chelsea influenced him and the rest of his career moving forward. It was a touching piece and reflects that for many this could be a match made in heaven.

Robben is nearing the end of his career and so would not dominate the need for match time.  He could be excellent in matches though if called upon and teach players about professionalism and tactics.  One of the smartest players frankly to have ever played the game Robben would be a phenomenal addition to Chelsea and it would be a calming intelligent way to affect the team.
