Chelsea have joined the race for Leon Goretzka’s signature
It’s unlike Antonio Conte to invest in young players, but it’s been reported that he’s excited by the recent Leon Goretzka stance. The young German’s contract expires at the end of this season, and he’ll be looking to broaden his horizons from Schalke in order to further his development.
West London Sport have reported that Chelsea will join the many clubs looking to obtain the midfielder’s signature, joining the likes of Liverpool, Arsenal and Manchester City.
Antonio Conte is known for only deploying young players if they fit his system, and there’s a common theme for midfielders. Both Paul Pogba with Juventus and Tiemoue Bakayoko with Chelsea adopted this logic, with the Italian manager brushing their age to one side and focusing only on what they could bring to his team.
With that being said, this can be taken as a positive for Chelsea fans because the boss clearly notices something in Leon Goretzka’s playing style, something that can benefit the Chelsea lineup. The midfield role isn’t a problem for Chelsea, with Danny Drinkwater and Tiemoue Bakayoko signing in the Summer, but Antonio Conte will always be looking to improve his team.

Leon Goretzka has scored four times in the Bundesliga so far this season, but he’s mainly impressed on international duty. He’s made seven appearances for the World Cup champions, scoring on five occasions.
He’s an all-round midfielder, which will serve him well in the Premier League should he join Chelsea. He’s no stranger to getting in the final third, but he doesn’t mind doing the defensive duties either. He’ll certainly add balance to a near-perfect Chelsea midfield.
If Chelsea do sign Leon Goretzka, you can expect big things of him. He’s quite an explicit player, so we should expect to see his contribution in every game.
