Paulo Dybala has been a fantasy transfer of Manchester United fans for some time now. The Juventus star is being courted by former Juventus star and United man–Paul Pogba.
Despite Pogba’s (or Agent P’s) role in luring Romelu Lukaku to Old Trafford this summer, it appears that the midfielder is not done bringing in firepower to United. Dybala, the Argentine forward, is in the middle of his third season at Juventus. He spent his first three seasons in Palermo where he increased his appearances and goals every season. His 13 goal 2014-15 campaign secured his move to the Italian powerhouse.
His first season with Juventus he appeared in 46 matches total and scored 23 times. Last season, his goal total dipped a little bit to 19. But he scored four goals in last year’s run to the Champions League final.
So while Pogba intends to get his former friend into the fold at Manchester United, Pogba is not the only one who is anticipating a move.
"Pogba’s actual agent, Mino Raiola, has also said very complimentary things about Dybala in the recent past, openly stating that he believes the Argentinian star will move on from Bianconeri before long.“In the end, Dybala will leave,” Raiola speculated back in September."
What it would mean for United
This would be an interesting situation for Jose Mourinho. While Dybala is a versatile player that can play almost anywhere up front, it would likely mean a switch to a 4-3-3 as the go-to formation for United. Dybala would join Lukaku and Marcus Rashford up front. Rashford on the left, Lukaku center and Dybala on the right.
They would be supported in the midfield by Pogba, Nemanja Matic and likely Marouane Fellaini. This would be a dream formation for Mourinho. He would have an ideal lineup to sit back and wait for the counterattacking opportunity.
Next: United giving up on Mkhitaryan
Then it also begs the question of they are ready to give up on Henrikh Mkhitaryan. He was one of the highest priority guys when Mourinho took over. I think it would just be short-sighted to give up on him so quickly. He has had moments where he looked like a playmaker. Last year in the Europa League and the first part of this season stand out. However, consistency is the name of the game and if he can’t get it done consistently enough then as we’ve seen the time for proving oneself is small.
