Christian Eriksen could be headed to Barcelona

Barcelona have long been rumored to hold interest in Dele Alli and Harry Kane. Now they’ve turned their attention to a new Spurs star. Reports from Spain claim the Catalan giants are prepared to shift their transfer attention towards Christian Eriksen instead.

Ernesto Valverde’s club have held interest in quite a few Premier League midfielders this year. Previously, Philippe Coutinho and Mesut Ozil have both been linked strongly with Barcelona. It’s only natural that Eriksen should be the next name on the list.

After all, his blistering display for Denmark against Ireland garnered quite a bit of attention. Combine that with Tottenham’s Champions League masterpiece against Real Madrid and it’s easy to see why Eriksen would be linked with a big money move to Barcelona.

Curiously, the report from Don Balon alleges that Barcelona feel Eriksen might be the most attainable of their Premier League midfield targets. Evidently Barca officials really don’t communicate with their arch rivals. Real Madrid certainly know how difficult Daniel Levy can be to deal with. Bringing Luka Modric and Gareth Bale from North London to Spain required a great deal of time, energy and money.

More from FC Barcelona

If Barcelona plan to pry Eriksen away from Mauricio Pochettino it’s going to require a healthy amount of all those things. Tottenham would likely start the bidding for their Danish maestro somewhere north of £100 million. Spurs may value Kane and Dele more than the classy Dane, but that doesn’t mean the club would let him go on the cheap.

Eriksen also doesn’t strike anyone as the sort of player to go on strike to force a move. He may harbor dreams of moving to a bigger club, but he never articulates that sort of wish in the press. That’s a clear sign that he’s not hell-bent on moving to a club like Barcelona.

At the very least, it’s something to monitor moving forward. Eriksen has the class to fit in at a stylish club like Barcelona, but it’s unclear as to whether or not the Catalan giants are willing to break the bank to sign him. If not, he won’t be leaving Spurs anytime soon.
