Right back-Kieran Trippier

The former Burnley man isn’t the club’s most dynamic fullback, but look for him to get the nod on Saturday. Switching to a back four should be a really good thing for Trippier.

The English defender won’t be required to cover nearly as much ground in the 4-2-3-1 system. It will allow him to play a much more cautious match, which is his preferred strategy. Trippier will still be expected to get forward on occasion, but he won’t be required to provide all of the club’s width down the right flank this weekend.

Left back-Ben Davies

The formation shift should also make life easier on the Welsh international. Like Trippier, he’s got skill and class on the ball, but doesn’t possess the required pace to punish opponents. He’ll feel much more comfortable playing a safer game.

Expect Davies to play an even more reserved position than Trippier on the afternoon. He may make an occasional overlapping run, but for the most part, he’ll be positioned much closer to the midfield.
