Liverpool’s five most underrated players: Which Reds deserve more credit?

3. Joel Matip

While it may be a surprise to see a third defender on the list, Liverpool’s defensive issues are not entirely down to a lack of talent at the back.Liverpool’s defense as a whole may struggle, but individually, Matip has been sound since his arrival at Anfield and his reputation should not come under fire.

Matip’s task has been incredibly difficult due to the issues of his defensive partners, but his side’s defensive struggles are no representation of his ability. Their situation would deteriorate without him. 

Should Klopp bring in stronger defensive players , Matip shouldn’t have too many fears about his place in the team.
