New man Alexandre Lacazette believes Arsenal need a miracle to win the Premier League this season.

Being 17 points behind the league leaders is never a good sight, and with time ticking on, it’s looking less likely that Arsenal will be title contenders this season. At least, that’s what Alexandre Lacazette believes.

Arsenal picked up the Lyon forward for £52m in the Summer and he’s impressed many during his first couple of months with the North London club. He’s averaged a Premier League goal every 139 minutes this season, scoring 8 in 16 appearances.

The French striker was speaking with Sky Sports on Arsenal’s chances of lifting the Premier League title, and the new man didn’t fancy their chances…

"“We would really need a miracle. City would need to lose a lot of their games and we know their record. But the goal in coming here was always to qualify for the Champions League and if we could get the title, fantastic.” – Alexandre Lacazette"

The Frenchman holds the view of many, as most people have accepted the title is Manchester City’s to lose. It’s rare that you see a player coming out to say there’s no hope for his team, but at least Arsenal’s record signing is realistic.

Arsenal have two chances to qualify for the Champions League this season, with winning the Europa League being an option should they lose chase in the top four. The three places below first can still be hotly contested , as just seven points separate second placed Manchester United and seventh placed Spurs.

The Gunners face a lot of criticism when it comes to settling with Champions League qualification, but that’s an ideal aim after failing to do so last season. However, you can’t help but think with the talent they have on offer, they could at least challenge the top spot.

Alexandre Lacazette doesn’t believe so, and neither do many others with Manchester City storming ahead in the race. Do you think the Premier League campaign for this season is over already? If not, who do you think will challenge Manchester City? Have your say in the comments!
