Manchester United move to pip City and Arsenal
By Kian Long
Manchester United have entered the race to sign Jonny Evans from West Bromwich Albion, facing stern competition from Manchester City and Arsenal.
Jonny Evans is the subject to many transfer speculations, with him being one of the only available defenders in the current market. However, even the Northern Irish defender would have never expected to be linked with a move back to Old Trafford.
The rumours have arisen from Eric Bailly’s injury, with the Ivorian powerhouse set to miss the next few months of action. According to the International Business Times, Jose Mourinho is looking at reinforcements so he isn’t short at the back heading into the important stages of the season.
The move is rumoured to be around £30m, and although Jose Mourinho is facing competition from Arsenal and Manchester City for his signature, it’s nothing the Portuguese boss hasn’t dealt with in the past.
It’s smart, because Manchester United sit eleven points behind league leaders and rivals Manchester City. If the red devils are to mount a title race, these are the important stages. Jose Mourinho will be hopeful that Pep Guardiola’s men will fall down the trimmings fall down, but there are no signs of that happening.

It’s the time of year where we see a lot of the big guns in the Premier League slip up, as we’ve seen so often over the years. Jonny Evans is a solid defender who never looks out-of-place, so acquiring him in a defensive system is a no-brainer.
The Northern Irishman earned the captain’s armband for West Brom, following the departure of former skipper Darren Fletcher. His leadership on the pitch and presumably in training is what earned him this honour, and it will be a valuable asset to Manchester United, as a number of their leaders are beginning to leave.
