Chelsea have joined the race for young Gremio midfielder Arthur, the race which includes Spanish giants Real Madrid and Barcelona.
Antonio Conte is never one to invest in youth unless he feels the player is well equipped to his system, so hearing this news should be exciting for Chelsea fans. Chelsea are believed to have been in contact with the agent of Arthur, who is tipped to be the next big thing in Brazil.
The report comes from football.london, who believe the London club won’t want to join a transfer bust up if Barcelona decide to go ahead with the move. The Catalans are favourites to acquire the signature of the young Brazilian.
Gremio have valued Arthur at £44m. When it comes to price, you would always favour the Premier League club to be willing to pay the sum, with all the money available to English clubs nowadays.
However, Barcelona are still leading the race. Arthur was pictured in a Barcelona shirt, so you’d imagine his preferred destination would be to Spain. However, if Chelsea can persuade the Brazilian club otherwise, he may be steered to England.
Andre Zanotta, Gremio’s sporting director, has spoken out about the huge interest in the starlet. He says that the club are overwhelmed with all the interest, and that he’s well aware of all the meetings Arthur’s agent has been attending.
He then goes on to say that an agreement still hasn’t been reached with Barcelona, and that the two have put their differences aside after the image emerged. Zanotta believes Gremio could lose Arthur by the Summer, with all the interest mounting from across Europe.
What do you make of this, Chelsea? With Chelsea’s experience with youth in mind, do you think this is a good move for both parties? Personally, I would love to see the Brazilian apply his trade in England, but I’d love to hear your opinions so as always, leave them in the comments below.
