LB – Marcelo – Real Madrid

One of the most talented defenders in the game, Marcelo brings a tremendous impact to Real Madrid’s back-line. The Brazilian has an influence at both ends of the pitch, and his passing ability can create dangerous opportunities in the opposing half.

This was ultimately the most difficult position in defence to choose, as Barcelona’s Jordi Alba is another extremely efficient left-back.

But Marcelo is bound to cause issues for the Blaugrana all over the pitch.

CB – Gerard Piqué – Barcelona

A veteran of many Clásico battles over the years, Gerard Piqué’s experience should serve him well this coming weekend. The Bernabeu crowd will be intense, but the 30-year-old has seen and heard it all before.

Barcelona have only allowed seven goals through 16 La Liga matches, and their incredible goal-differential (+35) has been boosted by the centre-back’s strong play.

Real Madrid’s attack has not been as potent this season, but manager Zinedine Zidane is still able to count on his world-class talent in the final third. A key element to Barca maintaining their unbeaten start to the league campaign will be closing down space quickly and having the defence properly organised.

In the case of Gerard Piqué, Ernesto Valverde will be able to count on someone who has delivered time and time again in crucial moments.
