The best young goalkeeper in Europe

Simply put, Simon Mignolet and his understudy, Loris Karius, are not good enough for a team with Champions League ambitions. Pundits are fond of pointing out how both keepers fail to inspire confidence in their defenders. So, who better to inspire the back line than the best young goalkeeper in Europe?

Gianluigi Donnarumma made his debut for Milan at the tender age of 16 and remains the Rossoneri’s number one. He made his debut for the Italian national team last year becoming the youngest goalkeeper to ever play for Italy.

It has not been all smooth sailing for the 6’5” keeper though. This summer saw the Milan faithful turn on him as he angled for a move abroad. His agent is reportedly looking for loopholes to get out of his current contract. Unsurprisingly, this has not gone down well with the Milanisti. The ultras recently displayed a banner calling on him to get out of the club.

The romance is over at Milan, and the time is right for Donnarumma to move. He is cup tied for the Europa League, but Liverpool is still in the Champions League. The Italian could be the one Europa League player Liverpool can register for the competition. He also would not take up a non-homegrown spot as he is still just 18 years old.

The young shot stopper is seen as the natural heir to Gianliuigi Buffon’s throne. If he truly has taken on Buffon’s mantle, Donnarumma could solve Liverpool’s goalkeeping conundrum for the next decade or two.
