Harry Kane wasn’t the only Tottenham star v Southampton

Harry Kane will get all of the headlines after Tottenham’s 5-2 drubbing of Southampton, but he got plenty of support from his Spurs teammates. The English talisman buried the Saints with a brilliant hat trick, but that wouldn’t have been possible without a lot of help from the rest of the squad.

Tottenham’s English hitman removed all of the drama about his breaking of Alan Shearer’s goal scoring record with his goal in the 22nd minute. It was far from a difficult finish. Christian Eriksen played a beautiful ball into the penalty box that Kane easily nodded home. Spurs were hardly troubled during the rest of the match as they slotted five goals home past Southampton keeper Fraser Forster.

As you might expect, when you score five goals the attacking player ratings are going to be quite high. The defensive marks won’t be quite so scintillating. The back four did a reasonable job of keeping the Saints at bay, but giving up two goals isn’t going to make Mauricio Pochettino happy. The chief culprit for both Southampton goals was Spurs keeper Hugo Lloris.

Without further delay, let’s dive into which players deserve to be cheered, and which deserved to be jeered after Tottenham’s comfortable 5-2 victory.
